Accessibility
We want everyone to be able to attend AiX comfortably. Here's what to expect, and how to ask for anything you need.
The venue
AiX takes place at The Catalyst, 3 Helix, Science Square, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE4 5TG. The building won the Lord Mayor's Design Award for Accessibility, with wheelchair-accessible entrances, lifts to all floors, and navigation features designed to help visitors with visual impairments.
- Step-free access: the Newcastle Helix site has step-free access, lifts and accessible toilets throughout. If you'd like details of the route into the building, tell us and we'll do our best to help.
- Accessible toilets: available in the building. Our team can point you to them on the day.
- Hearing loop: The Catalyst's theatre has an induction loop throughout.
- Seating and quiet space: if you need a particular seat, space for a wheelchair, or somewhere quieter to take a break, tell us what you need and we'll do our best.
- Parking: there are disabled parking bays right outside the venue. There's also a multi-storey car park on the Newcastle Helix site, entered from Corporation Street (sat nav NE4 5QB).
On the day
- Doors open at 9:00am, talks start at 9:30am and the day wraps by 5pm. See the full schedule.
- There are morning and afternoon breaks, plus a lunch break.
- Lunch includes gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan options. Let us know about any other dietary needs.
- Captions: there are no live captions on the day. Talks are recorded, and the recordings will be shared with captions.
